Post-Traumatic Types

It could be a  Sharp injury  where the internal capsule and the medial collateral ligament have been cut or a trauma-induced rupture, with an impact causing an extreme lateral deviation, can induce a  acutre Hallux Valgus deformity.

Multiple metatarsal neck fractures causing a lateral blow of the toes and, in due course, a Hallux Valgus case.

Iatrogenic (induced by treatment) causes:  If the 2nd toe has been amputated and the big toe is not leaning against the 3rd. toe prior the surgery,  leading to a worsening or the onset of Hallux Valgus ( the great toe will always finish touching the next lateral toe ).  (see below, right).

Other Trauma-Induced Types

Traumas (section or rupture) of the anterior tibial is tendon:  In order to compensate for this, patients favour the use the long extensor of the big toe to dorsiflex the ankle.  With time a Hallux Valgus can appear.
Herewith :  A complete rupture of the anterior tibial tendon.  The long extensor of the 1st toe does all the work to dorsi-flex the ankle.  After a while, an acute and painful Hallux Valgus developed, followed by a lateral subluxation of the long extensor of the big toe and soon thereafter the sesamoid belt was out of line.
